OETA/The Oklahoma
Network
As you can see, we have
started the
new season of the
Lawrence Welk Show on PBS TV, 2008.
Prior to the start of the season, we were alerted to the fact that our show is again rated #1 on PBS this
year. Our
new format for this year is really a lot of fun. You get to see
more of the original show and then a wonderful, wonderful "in depth"
interview towards the end of the show. All of us had a great
time working in this new format brought about by OETA's . . . Bob
Allen. Enjoy family!!
I can't
believe it. Summer 2008 is upon us.
And something new for 2008! Johnny Zell
and his wife are starting a brand new church in Southern California.
This is not a building program. This is the start of "New
Beginnings" which will be the name of the inter-denominational
church. People in this local need a place to worship, to learn and have God's Word explained in a practical way, to pray, to receive and give encouragement to others, and to give generously to a needy community. Will you HELP US establish a church in this area? You can be a part of helping Johnny by sending in your
tax deductible donations, checks payable to DESERT COMMUNITY
FOUNDATION (memo: New Beginnings), c/o Johnny Zell, P.O. Box 1125, Pacific City, OR
97135. How exciting to have a chance to start something new
and make your finances count towards such a lofty endeavor.
God bless you as you give. The church is being established to
help children specifically. They want to raise $500,000 this year for the
underprivileged. The funds will be used for providing sports
equipment and instruction for these wonderful kids. All
donations are tax deductible. In the spirit of
the Lawrence Welk Show, "let's keep a song in our hearts" and bless
those who have little. Please give to this worthy endeavor.
Now
a little history written by a wonderful member of our staff.
Johnny
Zell has been playing and singing for fans of the
famous Lawrence Welk TV Show for many years! While Johnny was in the army
and a member
of the North American Air Defence Command Band (NORAD),
Lawrence Welk
called to see if he would come
to Hollywood and represent NORAD on Lawrence's national television show. Johnny
soon left for Hollywood to do the show. After his performance, Mr. Welk asked
him how much time he had left in the service. After Johnny's reply of . .
. "13 months sir", Mr. Welk said, "Johnny, come and see me when you get out
of the service, I may have a job for you"! Mr. Welk kept his word and Johnny
joined the Welk orchestra the following year after his release from the Army.
He has now performed for 32 years with the Lennon Sisters, Guy and Ralna,
Myron Floren and the wonderful Champagne Music Makers. He has remained with the
show all these years. The television show is still seen weekly
on 337 stations across America and Canada. In addition to the now syndi cated
PBS show, Johnny has his own entertainment company based in Los Angeles.
He performs with such stars as Jerry Seinfeld, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Gerald McRaney, and Delta Burke! His wife
Laura
has now joined in and together they are carrying on the musical
tradition that has so enriched Johnny's life!
In the meantime, keep watching the Lawrence Welk Show on PBS TV
every week (now in our 66th year). Johnny will be performing his wonderful trumpet
music on these shows.
